1980
May.18 A riot broke out in Kwangju, South Korea. The government proclaimed martial law all over the country. The leader of a reformist movement, Kin Dae-jung, was secretly abducted from Japan and taken back to Korea by the government. Meanwhile, the riot came to involve the whole citizen of the city, and the civil war with the government forces continued for days. The victims of the massacre amounted more than a thousand.
Sep. The Polish workers’ movement, Solidarity, was founded.
Sep. The Iran vs. Iraq War broke out.

1981
Dec. The Cultural Revolution was totally denied in the PRC.
Dec. The martial law in Poland.
This Year, Sha-sei-do, Kaiho-ha was split into Hazama-ha, the group lead by militant students and Takiguchi-ha, the group of workers.

1982
Aug. Israel invaded Lebanon. PLO withdrew from Beirut.
Oct. Solidarity was made illegal in Poland.
Jun. The distortion of history in the newly approved textbook was criticized by China, Korea, and South East Asian countries; which developed into diplomatic problems.
Secrete negotiations between some leaders of the Anti-Narita Air Port Alliance and the government (the Ministry of Transport and the Airport Public Corporation) were revealed; some leaders, including the interim secretary general of the Alliance, Masatsugu Ishibashi, resigned their positions one after another and seceded from the Alliance.

1983
Feb. In Assam in India, many Bengali people were massacred.
Oct. The US invaded Grenada.
Feb.27 The Anti-Narita Air Port Alliance disintegrated into two factions, Kitahara-ha and Atsuta-ha; this dismembered the supporting sects: Chukaku-ha went with the former and The Fourth International went with the latter.
Nov.3 In Sanya, a riot occurred which was caused by the intervention of a right wing/Yakuza organization: Kosei-kai/Nishido-gumi.

1984
Jan. A famine expanded into 24 countries in Africa.
May. The laws of nationality and family register [kokuseki-ho, koseki-ho] were established.
Sep.19 Chukaku-ha attacked the headquarter of the Liberal Democratic Party with a kind of flame thrower; seven floors, between the third to the ninth, were burnt.
Nov.27 Chukaku-ha set fire to the homes (and/or offices) of the governor Koichi Hamada and three Congressmen of Chiba Prefecture. (This was related to the Narita Airport affair.)
Dec.22 An activist and film director, Mitsuo Sato, was stubbed to death by the Yakuza organization, Kosei-kai/Nishido-gumi. He had been working on a film about the struggle of Sanya workers. This project was taken over by an activist who was one of the organizers of Gen-to-I, Kyoichi Yamaoka.

1985
Jul. In the Republic of South Africa, the Anti-apartheid movement began.
Nov.27 Felix Guattari visited Sanya by the invitation of some Japanese activists and thinkers.
Beginning from this year, New left Sects began to use the “projectile weapons” for the struggle against the Narita Airport expansion: arrow shaped bomb (Chukaku-ha), shell bomb (Kaiho, Hazama-ha) , M53 trench mortar (Bund, Senki-ha), etc.
Apr.12 Chukaku-ha attacked both Narita and Heneda Airports with eleven arrow shaped bombs, from a truck parked one kilometer away, with a time firing device.
May.20 A member of Nihon Sekigun, Kozo Okamoto, was released from the prison in Israel, after fourteen years detainment, on the occasion of exchange of POWs between Palestine and Israel. He rejoined Nihon Sekigun.
Jul. The Prime Minister Nakasone (and the Chief Cabinet Secretary) received a letter from the members of Sekigun, who had gone to North Korea by highjack; which was sounding the possibility of them returning to Japan without prosecution.
Sep.4 A member of Sekigun in North Korea, Kintaro Yoshida, died in Pyongyang by liver failure.
Dec. Kyoichi Yamaoka completed the film, which was entitled “Sanya—If you are fucked, Fuck them back.”

1986
Apr. The accident of the nuclear power station in Chernobyl.
Apr. Gorbachev proposed “perestroika”--the rebuilding--of the country.
This year the rate of yen per dollar reached 150 high; the Japan-US trade friction broke out.
Jan.13 Kyoichi Yamaoka was shot to death by a Yakuza organization in Shinjuku.
Feb.8 With a time ignite device, Chukaku-ha set fire to several workings of Kajima Construction Company in Chiba City and Yamato City, that were used for the construction of Narita Airport.
Feb.25 A member of Nihon Sekigun, Yoshiaki Yoshida, who had returned to Japan secretly, turned himself in to the Metropolitan Police.
Mar.25 Senki-ha (of Bund) attacked the Imperial palace with three fire-bombs with a time firing device; two were exploded in the yard.
May. The Anti-Imperialist International Troupe [Han Teikokushugi Kokusai Ryodan] attacked the embassies of Canada, US, and Japan in Jakarta Indonesia, with a trench mortar. From a room of a hotel near by, the finger prints of a member of Nihon Sekigun, Tsutomu Shirosaki, were found.
May.4 Chukaku-ha shot five arrow shaped bombs to Geihin-kan [The National Guest House] where the Summit was taking place, from a building in Shinjuku Ward, located five kilometers away; one fell in front of the Canadian embassy.
Jul.17 Hazama-ha of Sha-sei-do Kaiho-ha attacked the dormitory of airport security police of Chiba Prefecture, by shooting three fire bombs, and two of which exploded in the yard.
Sep.1 Chukaku-ha attacked and killed the secretary general of the Japan National Railroad Workers Union in Osaka area, in his home in Itami City, Hyogo Prefecture. (It was part of the war between Chukaku-ha and Kaku-maru-ha.)
Sep.25 The Tokyo High Court sentenced two leaders of Rengo Sekigun, Yoko Nagata and Hiroshi Sakaguchi, to death, following the sentence of the first trial.
Nov. In a hideout of Chukaku-ha in Iwate Prefecture, the police discovered a powerful bomb, made from pressure cooker, being developed.

1987
The first Palestine’s intifada--people’s uprising--against Israeli occupation took place.
Apr. The privatization of the National Railways [Kokutetsu].
attacked the American Embassy and the British Embassy with a trench mortar, on the occasion of Venice Summit. In a rented car, Italian Police discovered the fingerprints of a member of Nihon Sekigun, Junzo Okudaira.
Mar.24 The Supreme Court rejected the final appeal of Higashi Asia Han-nichi Buso Sense; this determined the death sentence of Masashi Daidoji and Toshiaki Kataoka, the life imprisonment of Yoshimasa Kurokawa, and eight years of Mariko Arai.
Jun. The Anti-Imperialist International Troup [Han Teikokushugi Kokusai Ryodan]
Jul.12 Senki-ha (of Bund) set time ignition devices to thirteen construction companies that were engaged in the construction of Narita Airport, in Chiba and Ibaragi Prefectures, as well as Osaka; thirty trucks were burnt.
Sep. Four households of the Anti-Narita Air Port Alliance, which were located in the second development site, broke away from Kitahara-ha, forming a new faction: Ogawa-ha.
Nov.24 The police arrested a member of Nihon Sekigun, Osamu Maruoka, who had been back to Japan for four months.
Nov.27 The Ministry of Transportation and the Public Corporation of Tokyo New International Airport determined to apply the New Narita Article to forcibly remove the unification hut [danketsu-goya] of Kaiho-ha; the riot police executed it.

1988
The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, was founded.
Jan.21 The High Court of Sapporo City rejected the final appeal of Katsuhisa Omori of Han-nichi Buso Sensen, the suspect of exploding the Hokkaido Government Office, and sentenced him to death.
Mar.3 Chukaku-ha attacked and killed the secretary general of the East Japan Passenger Railway Workers Union of Takasaki area in his home. (It was part of Chukaku-ha vs. Kaku-maru-ha war.)
May.10 Katsuhiro Shibata, a member of Sekigun, who had gone to North Korea by highjack but secretly been back for three years, was arrested in Kobe City.
Jun.7 A member of Nihon Sekigun, Hiroshi Izumi, was arrested in Manila Philippines.
Jul.4 Chukaku-ha set fire to seven companies that were engaged in the second term construction of Narita Airport, by time ignition device; twenty nine trailers and trucks were burnt.
Sep.26 Kaiho, Hazama-ha exploded a police station in Funabashi City in Chiba Prefecture, with a time bomb; parts of the station and a home were destroyed, and a policeman was injured.
Sep.29 Chukaku-ha set fire to two cars parked in the dormitory of the Supreme Court in Shibuya Ward in Tokyo, by time ignite device.

Nov. The Whole Council of Japanese Labor Unions [Sohyo] was dissolved; which was reorganized as the Whole Alliance of Japanese Labor Unions [Rengo].
Jan.29 With a time-bomb, Chukaku-ha exploded the storage of a home of the chair man of the committee for deciding uses of public land (of the Ministry of Construction); it destroyed parts of the home and other seven homes near by.
Feb.3 With a time-bomb, Kaiho, Hazama-ha exploded parts of the main precinct and the tearoom of Togo Shrine in Tokyo, which enshrines a general from the Meiji Period.
Feb.21 Two launchers for the shell bombs of Kaiho, Hazama-ha were discovered in a forest near Sanrizuka, the site of the Narita Airport construction.
Feb.24 Kaiho, Hazama-ha set a time-bomb on a river bank by the Chuo Kosoku highway in Chofu City in Tokyo, through which Showa Emperor’s funeral procession was about to pass. It exploded right before it came by, destroying about the ten meter of the bank.
Feb.28 Chukaku-ha attacked and killed the secretary general of the eastern section of JR Union (of Kakumaru-ha).
Mar.2 The former tutor of Kyoto University, Nobuhiro Takemoto (a.k.a. Osamu Takita), who had been implicated in the Red Guard [Sekiei-tai] affair, was released after six and a half years imprisonment.
Mar.7 In Tsukuba City Ibaraki Prefecture, Chukaku-ha‘s time ignite device burnt two storage buildings of Nihon Hoso, the company that was in charge of building roads for Narita Airport.
Mar.12 With time ignite device, Chukaku-ha burnt three large trucks in a parking lot for a construction company in Tomizu City, Chiba Prefecture.
Mar.20 With time ignite device, Chukaku-ha burnt a large truck, an excavator, and a resting room for the workers in the site of constructing an overflow in Narita City in Chiba Prefecture.
Apr.29 Chukaku-ha set a time bomb in a private car in a parking lot of the Imperial Household Agency in Chiyoda Ward in Tokyo; it destroyed the car and a bike as well as the window glasses of the dormitory.
Jun.5 With time ignite devices, Chukaku-ha burnt seven large trucks in a parking lot of a transportation company in Numanan-cho in Chiba Prefecture.
Jun.25 The leader of Kaiho, Hazama-ha, Hiroyuki Nagai, was abducted from his home in Kawaguchi City in Saitama Prefecture; his dead body was found in Ushiku City in Ibaraki Prefecture. It was thought to be related to an inner struggle of the same group.
Jul. Senki-ha (of Bund), that had been the one of the main supporters of Atsuta-ha of the Anti-Narita Air Port Alliance, determined to part with it.
Jul.24 With a time ignite device, Chukaku-ha burnt parts of the home of the secretary general of the committee of land expropriation of Chiba Prefecture.
Aug.23 With a time ignite device, Chukaku-ha burnt parts of the resting room for the workers in a golf club in Shibayama-cho in Chiba Prefecture.
Sep.8 With a time ignite device, Chukaku-ha burnt the office, storage, and five vehicles of a construction company in Narita City in Chiba Prefecture.
Oct.17 A time ignite device was set in the imperial mausoleum in Higashi-yama Ward in Kyoto City; part of it was burnt. The suspect was unknown.
Nov.16 With a time ignite device, Chukaku-ha burnt the house of the secretary general of the Chiba Prefectural Parliament; parts of two neighboring houses, too, were burnt.
Dec.2 Kaiho, Hazama-ha attacked and killed the chief of the general affairs department of the Whole JR Union in his home. (It was related to the strife between Hazama-ha and Kaku-maru-ha.)
Dec.6 Allowed by the New Narita Legislation [Narita Shin-po], the government (the Ministry of Transport and the Airport Public Corporation) forcibly removed the unity hut of Higashi Mine in Narita City; it took three days.
Dec.7 With a time ignite device, Chukaku-ha burnt a half of the home of an official of Chiba Prefecture’s Planning Department, in Chiba City.
